Although it’s just over an hour drive from downtown Dallas, it’s definitely worth the trip. You won’t want to miss their smoked briskets, French fried corn-on-the-cob and the seven inch Coconut Cream Pie.
The food at Clark’s Outpost is one of a kind. They smoke their meat for 72 hours before serving it. Most places smoke their meat for a few hours on a low setting, but Clark’s lasts 3 days to get it just right.
There’s no secret to their amazing taste; they just put the meat on the grill and let the wood do the work. The smoke gives it a perfect flavor.
Add one of their side dishes like the Jalapeno Black-Eyed Peas or Potato Salad. They also offer fried zucchini, okra, and potatoes. Most people choose the French fried corn-on-the-cob, however.
Another entrée favorite is the chicken fried steak ,which is a huge portion. It’s breaded and deep fried.
For dessert, get the Coconut Cream Pie. It’s seven inches tall and includes rich coconut flavored custard and topped with meringue and toasted coconut.
Since it’s a barbeque joint, you can expect a casual and family-friendly place. Clark’s has the country feel with their green and white checkered table cloths. Owners James and Kim Hilliard are friendly people and met through the restaurant.
