While this is the season to shop for gifts, play in the snow and put up the Christmas tree, it’s also the time of year where there are a ton of holiday events going on around town. Attending all of these events can get expensive even though they are so enjoyable.
Did you know that some of the best holiday fun can be had for free? There are beautiful light displays at Highland Park and Plano’s Deerfield plus a great Santa’s Village at the lawn next to City Hall. Here is a look at the best activities for families in DFW this winter that are free.
Texas Christkindl Market – 1098 Ballpark Way, Arlington
The Texas Christkindl Market is taking place until December 21st in DFW. It’s only been around for a few years but it’s already one of the most anticipated holiday events. It’s replicated to look like Germany’s famous Christmas market to offer authentic German delicacies and live entertainment.
Check out the vendors selling holiday gifts and artisan crafts, plus there’s a petting zoo for the kids. Kids will love Santa Haus, the nightly lantern parade and marionette shows.
Kimbell Art Museum – 3333 Camp Bowie Blvd, Fort Worth
You can see the permanent collections at Kimbell Art Museum for free. It’s open year-round for the family to enjoy events, classes and festivals. In Studio A there is a new Family Fun program during museum hours.
At Family Fun you can try hands-on art activities for parents and kids together. They have a drop-in studio for free art sessions that kids 12 and younger will love or the Friday night art activities for teens. This is a great way to do something fun indoor during the cooler weather season.
Bass Pro Shops – 2501 Bass Pro Drive, Grapevine
Bass Pro Shops offer tons of free fun that you can enjoy during the winter seasons. You can see the fascinating stuffed critters and dioramas; try the 3D archery range and the shooting gallery. The giant aquariums and indoor waterfalls are beautiful to look at and you’ll love the outdoor skills workshops on nicer weather days. Try fly tying, kids’ fishing and fly casting.
These are a few of the best ways to have some fun for free in DFW this winter.
