The Allied Printing Building in Deep Ellum has been sitting vacant for years and now it has new owners with big plans. There have been different ideas thrown out but the one that stands out is the transformation into a restaurant, bar, and market for the area.
A Little Background on Robert Miller, One of the Owners
Robert Miller is one of the new owners and he is a local who grew up in the area. He has already renovated other locations around Deep Ellum successfully so everyone has high hopes for this one. He bought it with two good friends and they have slowly been renovating it over the last few years. When they started Miller said it looked like everyone had just stood from their desks and left.
Incorporating the Old with the New
There was a lot of older office equipment in the building. While they took down the original sign for the building they have plans to incorporate it into the remodel. There have been talks of creating a sculpture garden on the property as well. It will certainly be a sight to see renovated when everything is said and done.
The plan is to keep whatever they can including the mural painted on the building. They have kept some of the knickknacks and old machinery to decorate as well as most of the original steel. They want to maintain the history and charm of the building while updating it. The main plan revolves around a hybrid of a grocery store, a restaurant, and a great view of downtown.
The Plans are Promising
There is little doubt that people in town will be pleased with the development and that is one of the most important things to Miller and fellow remodelers.
