Oak Cliff Film Festival is returning this summer for the fourth year in a row. It’s all about independent films and is taking place in the obvious choice of the Bishop Arts District along with some of the city’s most historic movie theaters. It’s a festival that wants to highlight the very best of Oak Cliff’s theater venues, popular restaurants and bars of the arts district.
It’s run by the Aviation Cinemas team after taking over from Texas Theatre in December of 2010. If you want to be a part of the festival that has DFW talking, here is a look at the upcoming festival details.
About Oak Cliff Film Festival
The goal of the festival is to showcase the best of independent film and brave film making of all kinds for Oak Cliff, Dallas, Denton, Fort Worth, Austin and beyond. It’s been recognized as the new heart of North Texas film culture.
The Aviation Cinemas Team and the 501©3 Oak Cliff Foundation will be running the festival for festival goers in the historic Texas Theatre, the Kessler Theater and the Bishop Arts Theater. It will take place from June 11th through 14th
What to expect
Each day will feature a theme to guide the programming and vibe for the four day event. It will all take places in the heart of the burgeoning Jefferson Blvd and Bishop Arts District. Being the 4th annual festival, it plans to build upon previous years reputations and continue the movement to spread the love for independent films in DFW.
Last year’s theme was all about the origins of cinema in celebration of Eadweard Muybridge but this year is going to be all about the influence of the late 70s, “NO WAVE” movement in filmmaking. You’ll be able to enjoy films like “Baby Mary,” “Be With Me,” “Jonathan’s Chest,” and “Young Bodies Heal Quickly.”
Parties and events going on during the festival haven’t been announced yet. Tickets for individual screenings will be available online for each venue starting May 18th or you can purchase at the door.
