On September 27, 2014, The 3rd Annual GreenFest will be held on the Lake Ray Roberts Greenbelt from 12 pm to 6 pm. It is a family-friendly event that will include a number of fun activities such as kayaking, archery, biking, rock climbing, and geocaching. You can bring your own bicycle or use one of the ones that are provided. Other activities include rides, an inflatable slide and obstacle course for kids, various exhibits, and much more.
Boxcar Bandits and the GreenFest Quartet will be providing live music and a Grammy Award-winning band by the name of Brave Combo will be headlining the GreenFest. In addition, Bombproof Horsemanship equine expert Chad Brinlee will be providing live equestrian demonstrations throughout the day.
Tickets purchased in advance are $5 per person. Tickets purchased on event day will be $7 per person. Children under 6 are free. In the case of rain, the event will be relocated to the paved parking lot near the beach at Isle du Bois State Park.
The Ray Roberts Lake Park contains a trail system that runs 20 miles, 10 miles for equestrian use and 10 miles for biking and hiking use. The trail runs from the Ray Roberts Dam all the way to Lake Lewisville headwaters. The trail follows along the banks of the Trinity River Elm Fork Branch.
The proceeds raised during the event will go to the non-profit organization called Greenbelt Alliance. This organization works to preserve the Lake Ray Roberts Greenbelt. The GreenFest of 2014 hopes to match funds granted to the organization by the state to be used for the 2014 Bridge Project. This project will involve constructing a bridge in a part of the trail that was destroyed due to a washout, which has caused the equestrian trail to become impassable.
If you don’t have any plans for Saturday, September 27th, 2014, you should head to Lake Ray Roberts Greenbelt for a lot of fun and excitement and to also benefit a great cause. More information about the event can be found at www.friendsofthegreenbelt.org.
