Uptown Dallas Apartments

In most cases, it’s hard not to welcome progress and new development to the Dallas area, but every now and then, change can be hard to swallow. And for regulars who frequently visit the well-known Cafe Express over in Uptown, that’s a lesson they’re learning the hard way.

Yesterday, news broke about the landmark restaurant located on McKinney Avenue now planning to shut its doors to make way for a new 20-story apartment tower that’s expected to also have retail space as well.

Being called the M-Line Tower, the project is being developed by High Street Residential—a subsidiary of Trammell Crow Company, which was originally founded in Dallas back in 1948. Although complete details are still not yet available, the project is said to include 271 apartments and 13,000 square feet of retail space.

The good news for Cafe Express lovers is that there will be a spot for a new Cafe Express once the project is completed, but that won’t be for another two years or so.

Aside from being new construction, other appealing characteristics about the new M-Line Tower is that it will also provide almost direct access to the McKinney Avenue streetcar line, while building amenities will include a swimming pool and a sprawling recreation deck with great views of downtown Dallas.
