Car ParkingFort Worth residents can look forward to saving some money downtown. Four downtown garages have deals set to offer free parking. This is perfect for those attending shows, dining out or going shopping in downtown Fort Worth. It's going to be free on nights and weekends at least until the year 2025. Here is a look at the free parking situation in Fort Worth.

Where to find free parking

Sundance Square and Cousins Properties had their leases approved by the Downtown Tax Increment Finance board. The Cousins Properties covers 1,000 spaces in its garages at 777 Main Street while Sundance covers 2,311 spaces in garages in 215 Commerce Street, 420 Throckmorton Street and 400 Jones Street. Cousins used to only cover free parking for patrons attending the events at Bass Hall but with the new lease expansion, it can cover more spaces and free weekend plus evening parking.

Why the Change?

The TIF realized the new leases are helping with cash flow. The director of the TIF was hearing from the public that without free parking, attendance at events would slow down. The good news for Cousins is that they will receive $250,000 for each year of the first five years of the lease.

Sundance offered a generous deal because they had four years left of their lease on the garage connected to the Chase Bank Building. They would have received over $2.5 million but agreed to stretch it over 11 years and basically included two garages for free.

Sundance Square will provide 1,545 spaces at the D.R. Horton & Wells Fargo towers location. Sundance is happy with the new lease and already offers free parking at its garages when you have a validated parking ticket from one of its restaurants or shops.

Times and Hours of Free Parking

You can access free parking in Cousins' lots from 6pm-1am Monday through Friday and 10am-1am on weekends. They have more spaces now too.

At the Chas Bank parking lot, Sundance now has free parking Monday through Friday from 6pm-3am and all weekend.

While free parking won't last forever, it's great while it lasts. Downtown is strong and thriving and freek parking only continues to improve it.
